Music that Matters: Parkside Speakers

Hello! This is my AP for my Civic term class, Music that Matters. This class is based around, well, music and how it has mattered throughout times of strive, protest, political unrest, and more. We have had multiple guests come on and talk about their music and in general their creations and how it has affected those around them. Our AP is to draft up a proposal based on the grant My Block, My Hood, My City. We needed to come up with a proposal, get a video of the place we want to set up, and in general make it seem like this is an actual proposal.

This idea is essentially giving  people their own voice. The station will be set up with a tablet hooked up to

speakers, two inside of the park and two that are just outside of the fence. The station itself will be set up at the front of

the park. It will automatically wake up around 7:30-8am, and shut off around 7:30-8pm.Users can go up to it and suggest

a song, which will then be queued after a check of its lyrics and general content. It will essentially work much like a

jukebox. After a song is queued, that song cannot be queued for another 25 minutes to an hour. This is so that the

same song can’t be looped on repeat and there can be some diversity.

The audience I wish to attract isn’t necessarily just one specific crowd, but more of the community.

Many people feel like their voice isn’t heard or isn’t given enough volume, so I think having a music

station where you can queue your favorite music and let people listen to it would be a great way for

everyone to at least have their voice heard for a bit.

The park, as it stands, is a simple park, and I believe this addition could definitely spice it up.

It would be fairly small, with just the speakers being the biggest part of it. Those who picnic and go

there play will still be able to enjoy themselves, but now with background music they can choose.

On the more software side, I would most likely use an app like YouTube Music

because that has things like clean versions of songs, as well as something much similar to that but for

kids. It also has a pretty wide range of songs as well, making it useful for not only English songs

but other songs in different languages as well.

In all, I think this could really positively impact the community as a whole.

Allowing people to play songs that are close and personal to them can help them feel

like they have been heard, like they have some sort of voice.

Here is my video!

Here is a playlist of some music I would play (though a lot of it would be cleaner versions)
