A Dolls House: The After Years

Hello everyone! This is my second Action Project for my class, Drama! In this unit, we our big question was what is the role of a doll. We read A Doll's House, a story about how a woman broke free of a marriage that restricted and bound her. Nora, our main protagonist, seems to be a ditzy housewife, but throughout the story she realizes more and more than the marriage and life she's in is not going to help her. During the time period A Doll's House takes place in, it was weird for women to not be married. Even though there were rights for women, it was only for young, unmarried women, Nora realizes and leaving her husband was something not many people really expected. This play then ties into the Action Project, where we were tasked in writing a screenplay on what we thought would happen after Nora left. We had to include ourselves plus a historical/mythical figure in our play. I chose Artemis because she's one the 3 virgin goddesses of Greek mythology, but also because I think she would have some interesting views on what happened with Nora. The main perspective I wanted to go for in terms of gender roles was that they shouldn't be limited to just one gender. If you're unhappy, whether you're a man or woman, you should be able to express it. This is just one of my scenes from my play acted out. Hope you enjoy!

What I really enjoyed was how gender was explored in this unit of class. The ideas that were present were really interesting, and the things we did to explore them more in depth were really fun. The easiest part of all of the project was probably writing the script. I like to write, so when I started to type, it started to come more naturally to me. The hardest part was actually figuring out what to write about, seeing as we really had no limitations.
