Siskel and Ebert-type shtick
Hello, and welcome to my first and final AP for Civic Term! Throughout this sort of mini term, we’ve been studying films, mainly the 3 parts of filming a movie: pre-production, production, and post-production. We’ve watched a good few movies like Jaws, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, A Wrinkle In Time, and some short films like Caged Birds, focusing on one or multiple of these 3 parts throughout the film. We’ve also had a lot of guests who specialize in one of those areas. We were then tasked to pick and watch a movie with our partner, then do a Siskel and Ebert type of review, taking a stance on the film and what we thought of it. We were also tasked with then choosing one of 8 approaches to contextual analysis and talking about different aspects that fit into that approach. We decided to do Parasite by Bong Joon-ho! This is my video with my partner, I hope you enjoy it!
This class was really interesting and fun. It gave me a new perspective on movies and how to critique them in a deeper way. It was a class I didn't know I would enjoy but really liked it in the end. It was nice being able to not only watch movies, but to be able to understand and analyze them in a more professional manner than I had before. It gave me the ability and opportunity to talk with people who were involved in the movie making process. It gave me the ability to understand film in a new light, and I'm really happy I took this class. Though, if I were to change one thing about the project, I would get more time. It would have been cool to look into the film a lot more and try to understand it more deeper. It would have been cool to study how accurate Parasite is to real life.
